Samsung Galaxy Fold

Image
Samsung has officially unveiled the Galaxy Fold, the company’s first foldable smartphone. The device features a groundbreaking hinge system with multiple interlocking gears—you can’t even see it from the outside—that lays perfectly flat when opened. The Galaxy Fold is a completely new type of hybrid device unlike anything else out there. When the Galaxy Fold is closed, it features a modest 4.6-inch display (840 x 1960). Open the device up to unveil a 7.3-inch (1536 x 2152) Infinity Flex display—the device is half smartphone and half tablet. This is a new era of the “phablet,” and it looks fabulous. “In order to make a brand new type of smartphone, we had to come up with all new ways to design and manufacture,” said Justin Denison, SVP of product marketing, Samsung. While the Galaxy Fold offers a large 7.3-inch display when open, it’s worth noting that there’s a rather large notch in the top right corner, which might be a problem when watching video. But that might not matter...

Nokia 9 PureView: this five camera phone

Image
Lumia 1020. Nokia 808. Nokia N95. These devices and more are all heralded in Nokia’s long history as being iconic phones that pushed the boundaries of mobile cameras. The Lumia 1020 in particular is one of my all-time favorite devices, and its 40MP PureView camera was one of the biggest leaps in smartphone cameras at the time. The Nokia 9 is now official, and it has me excited about Nokia all over again. It’s been nearly six years since Nokia last launched an innovative camera on a smartphone – that was the aforementioned Lumia 1020 – and the company has gone through a shuttering, and rebirth, since that time. Now we have the Nokia 9, which is the most innovative device launched since HMD bought back the iconic Finnish brand. The Nokia 9 was developed in partnership with Light, a camera company that’s doing great things in partnership with many Android manufacturers, including Sony. There are five cameras, the ability to shoot up to 1200 planes of depth and custom Adobe Lightroom...

the Huawei Mate X is a crazy foldable 5G phone

Image
5G and Foldable phones – the two big trends of MWC 2019, and Huawei has made a phone that fits both trends. The Huawei Mate X is the company’s most ambitious device ever, and features not one, not two, but three total screen configurations. It’s also purportedly the world’s fastest 5G phone and features four cameras. Let’s start with the first big trend of MWC: foldable phones. Like so many other companies, Huawei wants to be on-par with, or setting, the latest trends. The Mate X features a large flexible OLED panel on the outside of the phone, which features three distinct display configurations: when flat, it’s an 8” FullView display with no notch and minimal bezels. When folded, the front is a 6.6-inch “daily driver” screen that you’ll use every day, and the rear is a 6.38” screen. The FullView tablet display is 2480×2200 pixels (8:7.1 aspect ratio), and splits into 2480×1148 pixels (19.5:9 aspect ratio) for the “daily driver” screen and 2480×892 pixels (25:9 aspect ratio) for ...

SAMSUNG OFFICIALLY ANNOUNCES THE GALAXY S10 AND S10 PLUS

Image
Samsung just announced the 10th iteration of its flagship Galaxy smartphone, the Galaxy S10 and S10 Plus. I had a brief chance to poke around the S10 and S10 Plus ahead of today’s announcement, and here’s what you should know: these are unmistakably Samsung phones in that they follow the Samsung playbook of maximizing every possible spec, but they do so in a way that seems more elegantly integrated than the last few Galaxy iterations. This S10 pair succeeds last year’s  Galaxy S9 and S9 Plus , and they are also accompanied by a new Galaxy S10E model. All three phones will be available for preorder starting tomorrow, February 21st, and they will start shipping on March 8th. In addition to all four major US carriers, the S10 family will also be available unlocked from Samsung and other retailers, starting at $899.99 for the S10 and $999.99 for the S10 Plus. We have a  whole other article dedicated to the S10E , but for everything concerning the S10 and S10 Plus, keep reading...
