Xiaomi replaces customer's Redmi Note 4 after video of an exploding phone surfaces

The customer whose Xiaomi Redmi Note 4 had allegedly caught fire in Bengaluru has received a replacement from the company.
As reported by Tech Case, the phone had caught fire while inserting a SIM. A video of it exploding and going into flames was shared widely across social media.
The video shows a phone, alleged to be a Xiaomi Redmi Note 4, catching fire in the hands of a shopkeeper despite not being connected to a charger or any other electrical outlet.
In a statement to NDTV, Xiaomi blamed the use of a faulty third party charger for the explosion. Though the Chinese mobile manufacturer confirmed that the damaged phone has been replaced, it claimed that the video and the incident are unrelated events.
“We cannot validate the source of this video as it has no relation to this case, and was not from the Poorvika store. In fact, it is unclear if this separate and unrelated incident depicted in the video involved a Xiaomi device,” the company told NDTV.
