Google “Pixel” and “Pixel XL” smartphones said to debut early next month

Rumor has it Google is killing the Nexus brand this year in favor of a new naming scheme, and now we may know what to call the upcoming smartphones. Android Policereports that Google is set to debut the Pixel and Pixel XL handsets at an event on October 4.
The new names were apparently confirmed by two independent sources, including one that’s proven to be particularly reliable in previous stories. The Pixel is the 5-inch Googlesmartphone, allegedly codenamed Sailfish. Meanwhile, the Pixel XL may be the official name for the rumored 5.5-inch Marlin device.
A follow-up article from Android Police reveals that Google will unveil the Pixel and Pixel XL at an event on October 4 alongside a few other new gadgets. That could include a 4K Chromecast called Chromecast Ultra or Chromecast Plus, and a Daydream VR headset potentially called Daydream View. We should also get another look at the Google Homesmart home speaker hub and its final launch details.
We’re still missing some of the key details, like where or exactly what time the event will take place. It’s also unclear if Google’s new hardware will be available to purchase immediately afterward, and pricing is a mystery too. Assuming the October 4 date is correct, we’re a little more than a month away from an official unveiling, though we wouldn’t be surprised if more information leaked out before then.
